Week 10, Days 2-3

PTT:
1) Open up your waves & light test review.
2) Add these questions to your review:
- Electromagnetic Spectrum:
What is 1 use for each type of wave?
- Law of Reflection
Be able to complete a reflection diagram and calculate the angles.
- Mirrors
Draw a convex and concave mirror.
Draw what happens when light reflects off of these two types of mirrors.

Task 1 Set Up:
1) Set up page 128 in your science notebook
Title it: The Compound Microscope
Write the date: W10, D2
Record the goal - Goal: I can identify the major parts of a microscope and describe the function of each part.
2) There are TWO papers you need to get:
The Compound Microscope Parts A and B (Background and Diagram)
Parts C and D (Function of Parts and Rules)
3) Tape the Parts A and B paper onto page 128 in your science notebook
4) Tape the Parts C and D paper onto page 129 in your science notebook

Task 1:
1) We've learned about lenses and how our eye uses one, but what else can they be used for?
Check out this video to see some of the amazing images that were captured with a microscope (impossible without its convex/converging lenses).
Don't forget to read the background from part A on the worksheet!

2) Now that you've seen some of what a microscope can show you, you will complete the notes in your notebook. Go to Google Images and search for "parts of a microscope" or "parts of a compound microscope." Scan through the images to find one that looks most like the microscope shown in part B. Using the results you find (you may need to use more than one image!), label the important parts of a microscope.
3) When done labeling the parts, you need to do part C - record the function of each part.
Copy the names of each numbered part in order onto part C.
Then use the following one of the following links to record the function of each part
http://www.microscope-microscope.org/basic/microscope-parts.htm
http://www.microscopemaster.com/parts-of-a-compound-microscope.html
http://www.tutorvista.com/biology/microscope-parts-and-functions#
4) When done part C, read over the rules for using a microscope (part D)
5) Show it to Ms. Davis when completed - it's for a grade

Task 2:
1) Go to this site to check over the parts again. It doesn't look EXACTLY like our microscope worksheet, but the parts are all the same (just some in different spots).
2) Click on each number to see what the part is and read a description of the function.
3) When you're done reading over each part again, take the quiz and see if you can match up the part with the name. No peeking at your notes!

Closure:
Go back to the goal you recorded at the top of page 128. Can you identify the major parts of microscope and describe their function?

If there's still time left in class, study for tomorrow's waves and light test!!!

Week 11, Day 1

PTT:

Task 1: Virtual Tour of Microscope
1) Download this document for the microscope virtual tour - you will upload it to Google Drive when you are done.
2) Use the link here to go through a virtual tour of the compound microscope. Make sure you answer each "checkpoint" question as you go through the virtual tour.
NOTE: When the program asks you to draw an image, take a screenshot and insert it into your document.
