Week 6, Day 1

NOTE: This page needs work based upon rewrite of lab report conclusion requirements for G7!!! Should have some time for review?

Table of Contents

PTT:
Complete the probe worksheet "Ice Water"/"Turning the Dial"

Task 1:
1) Go to your google science folder.
2) Open your lab report document
3) Begin typing in the information from p. 32 in your science notebook

Task 2:
1) Let's discuss
- What did you notice when our ice was melting?
- What did the temperature do?
- How does this relate to your hypothesis?

2) We didn't completely get through the lab, as our water didn't boil and evaporate. Here is a graph below that Mr. Austen collected when doing this lab last year.

What do you notice about the graph?
Where was the ice melting?
Where was the liquid water boiling/evaporating?
How do you know?

3) We are going to draw and label a heating curve on p. 33 in our science notebook. Write the date and title the page - Heating Curve of Water Discussion

Here is a simulation of a heating curve with a description of what happens at each line on the graph:

4) Write a summary that explains what the heating curve of water shows us.

5) Draw a line below your summary for us to add additional notes.

Review video if needed:

6) Check this out!
Here is an interesting site that explains what happens when water is cooling. It makes sense that water molecules take heat energy and use it to change phase. The heat energy stops increasing the temperature because it is being transformed into the molecules' kinetic energy. But what happens as something cools? Where does the energy the molecules are losing go if energy can't just disappear? Click here for the link.

Task 3:
1) Write your Claim-Evidence-Reasoning Conclusion based upon what we've just discussed. Be VERY DETAILED.
2) Answer the error and application questions.

Closure/Homework:
1) Work on completing lab report - this is due next Wednesday
2) STUDY: Phases of Matter and Heating Curve quiz TOMORROW!

Week 6, Day 2

PTT:
Complete the Phase Change practice assignment

Task 1:
1) Complete the phase change quiz
2) When done, move onto task 2 as time permits

Task 2:
Complete one of the "if I've finished my work" activities
- Update Table of Contents
- Check if all work is complete - complete anything not done
- Check that all vocabulary terms, important information, and goal questions are highlighted in the appropriate colors
- Study vocabulary
- Review notes
- Add any visuals or side notes or clarifying remarks to your notebook as needed
- Work on lab report due next week
- Go back through the wiki lessons and review using online activities and videos

- If you're done everything else, use the internet or a book off the middle shelf of my bookshelf (ask permission first!) to research any topic of interest in science
