Week 12, Day 2

PTT:
1) Turn to page 130 in your science notebook.
2) Title the page: Plant and Animal Cells
3) Record the goal: Goal: I can compare plant and animal cells.
4) Record the date: W12, D2
5) Divide page 130 into 2 boxes (a top half and a bottom half)

Task 1: Animal Cells
1) Title the top half of page 130: The Animal Cell
2) Go to http://snurl.com/26s7sh. Click "Animal Cell" and explore the picture you get.
3) In the space below, draw a picture of an ANIMAL CELL. This needs to be ACCURATE, BIG, COLORFUL, and DETAILED. (Do NOT rush or you get a ZERO.)
4) Be sure to draw and label the following structures: cell membrane, cytoplasm, nucleus, mitochondria, golgi apparatus, vacuoles, ribosomes, lysosomes and endoplasmic reticulum. (18)

Task 2: Plant Cells
1) Title the bottom half of page 130: The Plant Cell
2) In the space below, draw a picture of a PLANT CELL. This needs to be ACCURATE, BIG, COLORFUL, and DETAILED. (Do NOT rush or you get a ZERO.)
3) Be sure to draw and label the following structures: cell wall, cell membrane, cytoplasm, nucleus, chloroplasts, mitochondria, golgi apparatus, vacuoles, ribosomes and endoplasmic reticulum. (20)

Task 3: Function of Cell Structures
1) Title page 131: Function of Cell Structures
2) Draw the table below onto page 131 (take up the WHOLE page with the table).

3) Complete the following table using the information given on the website. Click on the cell structure to view a summary of the function it performs within the cell. Write a brief summary of the function in the chart below. (22) Look below for videos that will help with recording the function or you can use this link too: http://learn.genetics.utah.edu/content/begin/cells/insideacell/

4) If music helps you learn, watch this to review the organelles:

Closure:
This is a graded assignment! Show it to Ms. Davis when you are done. This can be done in 3 ways:
a) show me your notebook with the assignment completed in class today
b) make a photocopy and turn it in
c) take a picture of each page and email it to me

Week 12, Day 3

PTT:
1) Open up your notebook to p. 130-131 (yesterday's work).
2) Follow along as we discuss the function of each part of a cell - make corrections as needed.

Task 1:
1) Read this: Just like your body includes many organs that each have their own job, your cells have organelles that each have their own job. These cellular functions are essential to the running of a cell. One way to help yourself understand how all of the pieces of this system fit together is to make analogies. You will work with a partner to create a Prezi or video that compares the cell and its organelles to a larger system.
2) Watch the "Cell As a City" video to see an example of a cell analogy.

Task 2:
1) Read over expectations/directions: Cell Analogy Project (Google Drive)
2) Look at example projects from last year
http://prezi.com/sfqvkminpjeu/animal-cell/
http://prezi.com/uwp89o1juvyl/science/
http://prezi.com/whyna6up2yy8/plant-cell/

Task 3: Cell Analogy Project Work
We will work on this project for the remainder of the week. You will be presenting on Monday of next week.
1) Make sure you have a partner.
2) Make a copy of the Google Document for you and your partner. Read the directions in the document on how to name it and begin working.

Week 12, Day 4

PTT:
1) Open up the google document you created yesterday with your partner (Cell Analogy Project)
2) Make sure it is in your science folder in google drive!!!
3) Read the rubric at the end of the document to make sure you understand what you will need to do

Task 1:
1) Finish completing the google document with your analogy statements
2) Show Ms. Davis know when you have completed them

Task 2:
1) Gather photos for your prezi or movie
2) Re-read the rubric to remind yourself of the guidelines for the project. As needed, look at the student examples from last year that are linked under task 2 for the previous class.
3) Begin creating your Cell Analogy Project
REMEMBER: you will be presenting this on Monday, so anything not completed in class MUST be finished for homework!!!

Week 13, Day 1

PTT:
1) Self-evaluate: how far along are you on your prezi? What do you have left to finish?

Task 1:
1) Finish prezi
2) Read over the rubric again and make sure you have done everything that is required.

Task 2:
1) Talk to a classmate and have them send you the link to their prezi
2) Look over their prezi and leave a reflective comment on their presentation - what was good about it? what could be improved? etc.
3) Do this for at least 4 people and make sure that at least four people have done that for you.

Closure/Homework:
1) Read over the comments that were left on your prezi. Is there anything you need to fix? Make any necessary corrections and email me if you have changed anything.
2) Email prezi link to Ms. Davis
